When you click the link below, you are completing an application form. Once submitted, Wild Roots Guides will reach out to you via email and within 72 hours with next steps regarding the status of your application.

All applicants will be asked to complete a Readiness Survey. The goal of this survey is to ensure each hiker can be paired with the adventure best suited for their fitness level. Backpacking is a challenging activity, and there are no easy “outs” once a trip has commenced. Extracting from the trail is often a trip ending experience for everyone, due to the nature of the routes. WRG typically hikes through remote areas which can lead to hours before official medical assistance can reach us.

Initial consultations are are required for all new hikers registering for an OVERNIGHT/backpacking trip with Wild Roots Guides. For Ruck Days, it is highly encouraged. The above mentioned Initial Consultation is free with your trip registration. If you are not ready to pull the trigger on a trip registration just yet, but still want to learn more, you can opt for for the Initial Consultation first. These run $35/hr, which can be used as a credit towards a future trip within 1 yr of the consult date.

Backpacking Trips:
Please consider a WRG Ruck Day to prepare for your backpacking trip. For certain trips, such as Tiadaghton Fall Foliage, a WRG Ruck Day is required to register.

Once trip payment is received, your spot is reserved.

Ruck Days:
Payment received = spot reserved for a single day/ruck day trip.

If you complete a ruck day (not part of a backpacking registration) you can apply $50 ruck payment as a credit towards a backpacking trip within 1 yr of the ruck date.

Waitlist:

Once a trip is full, you can sign up to be added to the wait list. If you sign up for a wait listed trip, you will be contacted if/when a spot opens on the trip. At that time, you will have 1 week to register (submit payment + scheduled consult). After 1 week, you will forfeit your spot to the next person on the list. Wild Roots will contact hikers in the order in which they signed up on the list.

Once you fill out this form, you will have 14 days to respond. If you do not respond to follow up attempts within 14 days, you will forfeit your registration spot to another excited hiker. Wild Roots has final decision on whether the hiker is ready to officially register for any particular trip based on readiness/fitness/etc.
