PA Hidden Gem

As the trip name implies, this route follows orange-blazed “Old Loggers Path”. This route features the ghost town of Masten, Yellow Dog Creek, and gorgeous views such as Sharp Top Vista. OLP also has a couple shelters along the way, which is a special treat for us Pennsylvanians. There may even be a couple geocache opportunities along the way, if that suites your fancy!

This trip is dedicated to empowering women in the outdoors.

About the Trip

Located in Loyalsock State Forest, this backpacking route is an ~28 mile loop trail follow Old Loggers Path. This route truly takes us into the heart of PA wild spaces. Less trafficked when compared to it’s more famous sister trail (Loyalsock Trail), it truly is a hidden gem. With a total of 3,400 feet of accumulated elevation gain over 3 days, this trip earns the difficulty rating of “easy-moderate”.

Special features of this hike are 1. sunrise on a beautiful, expansive vista, 2. camp at the fun and unique Yellow Dog creek. With the summer heat, this opens the door for a perfect opportunity to cool off after 2 days of hiking…creek bath anyone? 3. OR option for 3-sided shelter night 2 (for less-than-favorable weather). This route is also one of the more remote and untouched footpaths available through Wild Roots Guided treks.

Check out the Gillespie Point, Scotch Pine, or Worlds End Ruck Days to prepare!

As with most Wild Roots guided backpacking trips, we will begin hiking early Friday morning and front-load the adventure so that we can have time on Sunday to grab grub nearby! The post hike dinner is a great way to cap & commemorate your experience with others.
